CONCERT ETIQUETTE
You, your child, and your guests will enjoy the concert experience far more if you
are aware of certain universal expectations before the concert.
FOR STUDENTS:
-
Try on your concert attire a day or two before the concert. You are growing all the time!! If
something doesn't fit, trying it on early allows time to buy or borrow a suitable replacement.
-
No later than 1/2 hour before performance time, you should be in the choral room, completely dressed, with
any music and / or props ready. You should plan on making any necessary lavatory visits before this
time.
-
If you need help with music, props or an article of clothing, arrive even earlier. This includes
help with boys' ties.
-
Wear your concert attire as expected. Don't make chaperones or Mrs. Terlecky ask you to tuck in,
button up, or cinch your tie.
-
When in the choral room, keep voices down. Don't touch the keyboards or the TV. Mrs.
Terlecky and the chaperones should not have to raise their voices to ask you to be quiet or to start warmups.
-
Don't talk while on the risers! We're recording the concert!
FOR PARENTS:
-
Have your child try on concert attire a day or two before the concert. This leaves time to buy or
borrow appropriate replacement clothing. It also helps you to make sure that your child plans on wearing appropriate attire.
-
Help your child to be in the choral room, fully dressed, no later than 1/2 hour before
performance time.
-
Stress the importance of wearing concert attire appropriately and with pride.
-
Set all pagers, cell phones, and wireless telephony devices to silent or vibrate
before entering the auditorium. Don't conduct phone calls in the auditorium, even if you whisper. It's rude.
-
Use flash photography sparingly. It distracts your child and his or her peers. The stage lighting is more
than sufficient to allow excellent photos with most digital and film cameras.
-
Plan on staying for the full performance. Encourage your child to stay with his or her peers
until the concert is over. Leaving early sends the wrong message to your child and his or her peers.
-
Vacate the auditorium and parking lot promptly if there is another concert!!

CONCERT ATTIRE
Band and Chorus are both visual AND auditory experiences, and it's important for your
child to help contribute towards the overall experience in both areas. It's vital that you impress upon your child that ensemble performances are about
blending in, rather than standing out. As such, not only should your child strive to blend his or her voice to the group, but he or she should understand that
concert attire should be worn correctly and with pride.
For all concerts at McGee, performers wear black and white unless specifically
instructed otherwise.
BOYS - A plain white shirt
(tucked in) over black pants over black socks and black
shoes. A tie of choice completes the ensemble.
GIRLS - A plain white top over black pants or a black skirt. Your child must
wear black nylons if she is wearing a skirt. Please help your child to choose safe, comfortable shoes to complete the ensemble.
SPECIAL
NOTE FOR STUDENTS WHO WILL BE MISSING A CONCERT THIS YEAR
Any
student who misses a concert, whether due to an excused or
unexcused absence, must make up
the concert experience with Mrs. Terlecky. Chorus is a performance-based
activity, and it is necessary that students have the experience
of performing
before a group as part of that experience. At the make-up concert, students will perform in a smaller
group for a group of peers and staff, and the experience
will be conducted as a concert. Students who need to take
advantage of this opportunity should schedule
with
Mrs.
Terlecky
in
advance. Any student who is not able to attend the make-up
concert due to accident, injury, or illness, should contact
Mrs. Terlecky as soon as possible. |
