Mr. Cormack

     After completing degrees in History and Political Science, Mr. Cormack studied applied music at Central Connecticut State University under Gary L. Partridge, Steve Perry and B. Glenn Chandler.  Originally a woodwind player, Mr. Cormack took up tuba and low brass in 1991, and studied extensively with Steve Perry, also of the Hartt School.   Upon graduation, Mr. Cormack accepted a role as Graduate Assistant to the marching band program at CCSU, filling numerous roles with that program.   In the fall of 1995, Mr. Cormack accepted a position with the Southington High School Blue Knights Marching Band, under the direction of R. Jeffrey Shaw.   During the next 11 years, Mr. Cormack filled numerous positions with the Southington program including Low Brass Instructor, Drill Instructor, Interim Percussion Instructor, and Band Engineer.   During this time, Mr. Cormack also worked with several other well known high school bands including the St. Bernard High School band (Montville, CT), the Torrington High School Band, and the F. Scott Bunnell High School Band (Stratford, CT).   Since the fall of 2006, Mr. Cormack has worked exclusively with the Berlin High School Redcoat Band as a drill and instrumental instructor, and as an Acting Assistant Director.

    Mr. Cormack currently teaches 7th Grade Geography at McGee, where he has worked since 2003.   Since his arrival at McGee, Mr. Cormack has assisted in numerous capacities with the McGee Instrumental Music program, including many concerts as a guest performer, Jingle All The Way Coordinator, and his recurring role as marching instructor and instrument repairman.   Along the way, he even served two weeks as Interim Band Director!

     Outside of McGee, Mr. Cormack performs with the Capital Winds at the University of Hartford's Hartt School of Music, and with the Glastonbury Town Band.   Mr. Cormack also performed with the First Company Governor's Foot Guard Band from 1999 to 2006, rising to the position of Assistant Drum Major before accepting a promotion that moved him out of the band.  Mr. Cormack still performs with the 1GFG band on occasion.   Mr. Cormack has also performed with numerous other ensembles including summer bands in Glastonbury, Naugatuck, and Winsted, and has performed with renowned tuba players Harvey Phillips and Gary Buttery in TubaChristmas concerts at Rockefeller Center and Essex, CT, respectively.
